Early years

The Reach British School our Early Years curriculum provides challenging and professionally validated standards with specific learning goals for every area of learning, without losing sight of this unique stage of a child’s development.

Overview

Early education is crucial to children’s development.

Our goal is to prepare children for the best possible start in school life. We give children the opportunity to develop their social skills and discover that learning is fun and can take them to many exciting places. Our nurturing and stimulating environment ensures that each child feels valued and supported as they embark on their educational journey with us.

Our curriculum

Our Reach British School, our Early Years programme focuses on key areas of learning to provide a well-rounded foundation:

Physical Development

Express themselves

Building on their physical development allows children to explore their environment and be inquisitive about the world around them. Our custom play spaces allow the children to have fun, whilst learning important skills at the same time.

By learning how to safely use equipment, they build the confidence to express themselves and build their co-ordination skills.

Personal, social and emotional development.

Gain confidence

At Reach, children gain confidence by trying new activities and expressing their preferences. They feel at ease speaking in familiar groups, sharing their ideas, and selecting the materials they need for their chosen activities.

Children discuss emotions, their own and others', as well as behaviors and their consequences, recognising that certain behaviours are considered unacceptable. By learning these skills the children demonstrate sensitivity towards the needs and feelings of others and foster positive relationships with both adults and their peers.

Literacy

Love of reading and writing

At Reach, we believe that literacy should be engaging so that children can begin their lifelong journey of reading and writing. Whilst in the Early Years school, children will start reading and comprehending simple sentences. They will utilise new skills to decode words accurately and pronounce them fluently.

By taking part in descriptive discussions about what they have read, the children will demonstrate their grasp of the text and storyline. When it comes to writing, they build on their phonic knowledge to accurately reflect the spoken word and write simple sentences. The world of learning starts here.

Mathematics

Problem solving

When it comes to mathematics, children develop strong counting skills from 1 to 20 and learn to sequence numbers accordingly. They can identify the number that comes before or after a given number. Utilising physical, real-world objects, they can add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count forward or backward to determine the answer.

As problem-solvers, they tackle more complex mathematical operations such as doubling, halving, and sharing. Children also use everyday language to compare quantities and objects based on size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time, and money, thus honing their abilities to solve problems.

Understanding the World

Discover communities

Children love to share stories about past memories and present adventures, not just from their own lives but also from their families. They enjoy exploring the similarities and differences between themselves and others, as well as between different families, communities, and traditions. They are curious about the variation in places, objects, materials, and living things.

We encourage the children to discover what makes their immediate surroundings unique and how different environments can be from one another. The class has fun observing animals and plants, pondering why things happen the way they do, and discussing changes they notice.

Arts and Design

Explore the arts

Children embrace the joy of singing songs, creating music, and expressing themselves through dance. They safely use and explore a variety of materials in art and design sessions using tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form and function. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role-play and stories.

At Reach, we encourage and celebrate the artistic exploration of our diverse and talented learners, fostering a truly inclusive and globally-minded artistic community.

When to enrol?

In our school, placement of our new students in classes is carried out by the Heads of School to ensure classes are diverse across gender, language, national status, and additional learning needs. After enrolling, you child's new teacher will be in touch directly with all the information you will need, and you will be given a house colour for your sports uniform.

We look forward to welcoming you on your first day!

Our learning pillars

At Reach British School, everyday is a celebration of learning. Our programme is designed to pursue life skills and to help our students reach their full potential and this starts with Early Years.  As part of the International School Partnership - ISP family, we support students to take ownership of their learning, and every student is motivated to shape their world through transformative learning experiences. We are dedicated to developing the knowledge and lifelong skills that will allow our students to succeed at school and beyond.

Skills for life

We believe that there are some key life skills that all students need to thrive. These skills prepare them to adapt to a rapidly changing world, make informed decisions and build meaningful relationships, setting a strong foundation for lifelong success and fulfilment. Our students develop these skills over their school years, through learning experiences inside and outside the classroom.
