International Primary

At our International Primary School we ignite passions and nuture your child's learning journey. We know that each child is different and we spend time to find out what makes their school day sparkle. During their time in Primary our students study the three core subjects, Maths, Science and English and the eight foundation subjects in primary school, for 5-11 year olds.

Mapping the curriculum

Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide a diverse and well-rounded educational experience for our students, tailored to meet their needs in the UAE while also offering exposure to global perspectives.

As part of the Ministry of Education guidelines Arabic, Islamic, UAE Social Studies, and Moral Education are integrated into the curriculum.

Through our curriculum, students have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, understanding, and skills across various subjects, preparing them for success in a multicultural world.

Igniting curiosity

At Reach, we believe in igniting the natural curiosity and inquiry of our students from day one. In our Early Years and Primary settings, we offer incredible STEAM opportunities that blend Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics skills.

This approach allows students to participate in a variety of real-life problem-solving activities, sparking their interest and fostering a passion for learning.

Values driven global citizens

Our school values are embraced in all that we do in school, developing our students as future Global citizens. Weekly class assemblies introduce the key themes around a value which are then celebrated by class teachers during the week with certificates shared in year group assemblies where we warmly invite our parents to attend.

The core subjects

Maths

Our primary goal is to empower students to confidently apply their mathematical skills and knowledge in real-life scenarios. We strive to make Maths engaging and practical by incorporating games and critical thinking exercises into our teaching approach. While we utilise the Collins Busy Ants Maths scheme in primary education, we supplement it with a variety of supplementary learning materials.

Students explore concepts like data handling, shape, space, numerical applications, including real-world tasks like managing money and problem-solving every term, ensuring a seamless and progressive learning experience. Through hands-on projects, students get to immerse themselves in real-life applications of math skills. We integrate Math concepts with themes from science or literacy lessons when relevant, encouraging students to apply their mathematical understanding beyond the Maths class.

Science

The beautiful world of Science at Reach British School aims to ignite curiosity, inspiring students to ask questions, make predictions, and explore their ideas. Through engaging in scientific inquiry, students develop essential investigative skills as they delve into captivating topics like life processes (plants, animals, and humans), materials and properties, and physical processes (forces, motion, electricity, light, and sound).

Science is a weekly adventure where students not only learn but also apply their knowledge to other areas of the curriculum, like exploring 'Space' in Year 2.

English

In all classes we provide ample opportunities for students to engage in meaningful conversations and actively listen to one another. Whether it's speaking English in pairs, participating in small group discussions, or presenting in front of a wider audience during assembly time, students have the chance to develop their language acquisition and pronunciation skills.

Our dedicated teachers also lead by example, reading stories to the students and demonstrating fluent and expressive reading. Through educational trips and visits, students further enhance their speaking and listening skills and practice asking a variety of thought-provoking questions.

English writing

At Reach, we believe in equipping students with the tools they need to become strong and confident writers. Starting with the fundamentals of words, phrases, and sentences, students develop their skills and learn to write for a variety of purposes ranging from non-fiction to fiction and poetry. We reinforce their learning through weekly spelling tests and grammar and punctuation practice, providing a sturdy foundation for those learning a second language.

Our integrated teaching approach ensures that grammar rules are not only learned but also understood. We provide our dedicated teachers with exceptional writing tasks found in the Read Write Inc series, linked to reading books that students enjoy reading together in pairs.

Foundation subjects

Art

We believe that Art is a vital component of our curriculum, and we love incorporating it into our themes. Our goal is to provide our students with a diverse range of materials and techniques, exposure to a multitude of styles and media, and the space to develop their own personal style and approach.

Our specialist teachers guide and encourage our students, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere where every student can thrive. We're dedicated to inspiring and educating our students in the wonderful world of Art.

Music

At Reach we believe that Music plays a key role in fostering a love for sound and rhythm among our students. We aim to create a vibrant musical experience that includes listening, appreciating, and actively participating.

Our students are encouraged to explore singing and percussion instruments, embracing the joy of making music together. In Key Stage 1, students dive into one music lesson per week guided by their class teacher. As students progress to Key Stage 2, music becomes intertwined with various curriculum areas, enhancing themes and creating a holistic approach to learning.

For some students, the highlight of the year is the end-of-year concert, where they have the opportunity to showcase their musical talents to their families and peers, celebrating their growth and creativity.

Computer Class (ICT)

We strive to empower all of our students with the confidence and skills they need to use computers and technology responsibly and with ease. We provide plenty of opportunities for students to explore computer functions in the safety of our schools. We also occasionally set research homework, allowing our students to practice gathering information from child-friendly websites. In Year 3, our students are lucky enough to receive a weekly lab lesson, expertly taught by one of our skilled ICT specialists.

Throughout Key Stage 1, ICT is seamlessly integrated into various curriculum areas, providing a well-rounded and practical approach to learning.

We believe that providing our students with a strong foundation in computer literacy is a fundamental part of their education, opening up many doors for their future endeavors.

Physical Education

Led by our dedicated specialist teachers, students engage in a variety of physical activities, from dance to team games and individual sports. We cultivate a positive approach to an active and enjoyable lifestyle, emphasising the development of not only physical skills but also important attitudes such as teamwork, negotiation, and critical thinking.

Our inclusive approach ensures that all students participate in Sports Day and contribute to their school team's success, earning valuable house points. Additionally, students in Year 5 and beyond benefit from swimming lessons as part of their PE curriculum, providing them with essential life skills and promoting a well-rounded physical education experience.
