Reach British School’s first overseas residential trip to Kazakhstan ?? for skiing ⛷ was a huge success! Sixteen students accompanied by two teachers and a company tour guide/ translator embarked on short visit that is sure to live long in their memories.
During the build-up the excitement of those involved reached unprecedented levels with questions fizzing from their naïve mouths. What will the temperature be? Will I need a big coat? Will I need warm trousers? What are they called? Where can I buy them? How far is it? Are we flying business class?
After a quick photo under the Kazakhstan flag at Reach British School we were off to DXB for the adventure of a lifetime. We flew through the night and landed in sub-zero Al Maty airport to all the enthusiasm and anticipation for the slopes. A short bus ride to Shymbulak ski resort and it was straight to the allocated rooms for some much needed rest before the big day ahead.
Breakfast was served and a chorus of claims flooded the table, “I’m gonna ski from the top”, “I’ll be the fastest”, “I swear, I’m the best”. The time for talking was done.
The majority of the kids had never encountered anything like it. The slopes were crisp and white and the children showed fantastic progress as they cut and ploughed across them during their first encounter with snow. After 2 hours of ski tuition everybody was absolutely wiped out.
